About George Westinghouse College Prep
Preparing Students for College Careers and Beyond
George Westinghouse College Prep (GWCP) reopened its school doors in fall 2009. This school serves students from across the city of Chicago. GWCP is the first selective Chicago public high school to have dual enrollment criteria: selective enrollment and college-to-careers. The school serves a diverse student population from nearly 300 public and private elementary schools, with roughly 30 percent of its students residing within a two and one-half mile radius of the school. GWCP provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, with four years of English, mathematics, science, social studies, and World Language. In addition, the school offers over 12 advanced placement options, starting at the freshmen level. Students are also provided with a broad range of elective courses including statistics, graphic design, economics and band. Included in the college-to-careers program are four innovative academies: Broadcast Technology & Media, Business, Health Sciences and IT – Oracle.
